Analysis based purely on characterization relating to the common roughness parameters (e.g. Ra, Sa) is insufficient for assessing the tribological properties of metal surfaces. The effectiveness of surface lubrication is often largely dependent on the formation of suitable microvolumes. With the innovative approach of a functional volume model of the surface, the Winsam-Tool offers the user the possibility of identifying surface features of tribological relevance (e.g. lubrication pockets) and to quantitatively measure them. The software has been in use for many years in numerous major industrial companies in the field of metal forming technology (e.g. at ThyssenKrupp AG). With the aid of stable 3D volume parameters (e.g. lubrication pocket volumes), information on the frictional properties - and therefore also the shapeability (suitability for deep-drawing) of fine sheet metal may be derived for different texturizations.
Besides 3D volume analysis, the Winsam-Tool also permits detailed evaluation protocols to be generated, taking into consideration the most important industry standard roughness parameters and filter methods. The macro-interface means that recurring evaluations can be automated.
